Welcome to Kerrville, Texas.

Kerrville is a city in Kerr County, Texas, United States. The population was 20,425 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Kerr County. Kerrville is named for James Kerr, a major in the Confederate Army, and friend of town founder Joshua Brown, who settled in the area to start a cypress shingle mill.

The people of this town and the surrounding areas sometimes jokingly refer to themselves as "Kerrverts," though it should be noted that "Kerrvillite" is the correct term. Kerrville is best known for the Kerrville Folk Festival.

The Kerrville Folk Festival is a music festival held for 18 consecutive days in the late spring/early summer at Quiet Valley Ranch near Kerrville, Texas. The event has run on a yearly basis since 1972. Each May and June, the ranch welcomes tens of thousands of people, many of whom camp on the grounds of the ranch in a veritable tent community. The festival places a strong emphasis on songwriting, though the performances encompass a variety of styles. the idea behind the festivals is to "promote emerging artists while giving our audience exposure to both new and recognized, seasoned talent," according to the festival's official website.

Kerrville-Schreiner Park - Located on the Guadalupe River, this 500 acre park offers swimming, fishing and boating. Campsites, picnic tables and rest rooms with showers. Reservations recommended for campsites.

Bill's Golfland, located on Spur 100, off Hwy 27E, is a public practice facility with night lighting, automatic and grass tees, target green, chipping and putting greens, sand bunkers and a pro-shop. Area's only par-3 golf course.

The Guadalupe River flows through the park making a delightful natural pool. Located in the heart of downtown, the park's beautiful grounds and shaded picnic tables make it an ideal spot for a day's outing. A foot bridge crosses the river to Tranquility Island where cypress trees tower over gently sloping grassy banks.

Nestled in the Hill Country, only 1 ½ hours southwest of Kerrville, the Lost Maples State Natural Area is a combination of rugged limestone canyons, plateau grasslands, wooded slopes and clear streams. The only maple forest in Texas is located in this 2,174-acre park. 20 picnic sites, 30 campsites with water and electricity, eight designated primitive camping areas accessible to hikers.

The Museum of Western Art opened on April 23, 1983, and was first known as the Cowboy Artists of America Museum. In the years since, hundreds of thousands of visitors have walked the museum galleries and have seen the West brought to life through the artwork on display. The hardworking cowboys, the Native Americans, women of the West, settlers, mountain men and others are featured through various themed exhibits. Through other displays, the history of famous ranches as well as other diverse aspects of our Western heritage are shared with an ever-widening audience. In addition, area educators, students, writers, as well as the public make frequent use of the museum's 5,000 volume Western art and history library.
